A white collar offense usually involves deception and/or fraud. The term “white collar crime” was initially defined as a crime committed by a person of respectability and high social status in the course of his occupation. Today, white collar crimes are generally non-violent crimes committed for financial gain.

Most white collar crimes will be charged in Federal court but this does not mean that you can’t face the same charges in State court. The types of white collar crimes include:
